Help and setup
Before you start
- Turn the TV on.
- Connect your phone and TV to the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks and some mesh "isolation" settings keep devices apart.
- Turn off any VPN on your phone while you set up. VPNs can hide your home network from the app.
- Keep your TV's own remote nearby. You'll use it once to approve the phone.
The app works with LG webOS, Android TV / Google TV, Samsung (models with secure local pairing) and Sony BRAVIA (IP control). Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Vizio, older Samsung models and infrared remotes are not supported.
Add your first TV
- Open the app. It searches your Wi-Fi for TVs straight away.
- Tap your TV in the list. If it isn't there, enter its IP address. You'll find it in the TV's network settings, usually under Network → Network status or About.
- Approve the phone on the TV, or type the code the TV shows. The steps for each brand are below.
- Press Home on your phone and watch the TV. If the home screen opens, you're done.
You can add more TVs any time from Add TV, and switch between them by tapping the TV name at the top of the remote.
LG webOS
- Select the TV in the app. A request from the remote app appears on the TV screen.
- Use your TV's own remote to choose Accept. The request stays open for about 90 seconds; if it disappears, cancel and connect again.
LG TVs get the touchpad, keyboard, app list, input list and favourite apps. The app connects to LG TVs securely and remembers the TV's certificate after you accept.
Android TV / Google TV
- Select the TV in the app. The TV shows a six-character code.
- Type the code in the app and tap Pair TV.
This needs Google's Android TV Remote Service on the TV, which most Android TV and Google TV devices include. If pairing fails to start, update that service from the Play Store on the TV, then try again.
You get navigation, volume, channels, playback and power. When a text field on the TV is selected, the keyboard sends text from your phone. App shortcuts open Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and Spotify if they're installed on the TV. Touchpad and input lists aren't available on Android TV.
Samsung
Limited testing. Samsung support is implemented but hasn't been confirmed on many physical TVs yet. Results can vary by model; please tell us how it goes.
- Select the TV in the app, or enter its IP address.
- On the TV, choose Allow when it asks about the new device, using the TV's own remote.
If no prompt appears, check the TV's device connection settings. On many models they're under Settings → General → External Device Manager → Device Connection Manager; menu names vary by year. Older Samsung TVs that use a different remote system aren't supported.
Sony BRAVIA
Limited testing. Sony IP control is implemented but hasn't been confirmed on many physical TVs yet. Many newer Sony TVs also run Google TV; for those, you can pair as an Android TV instead.
- On the TV, open Settings → Network → Home network setup → IP control. Names vary by model; some use BRAVIA Settings → IP control.
- In Authentication, allow Pre-Shared Key, then set your own key. Keep authentication enabled.
- In the app, tap Add TV, choose Sony setup, and enter the TV's IP address and the same key.
Sony's IP control uses an unencrypted local connection, so the key travels over your home network in plain text. Use a key you don't use anywhere else.
Using the remote
- Direction pad and OK move around menus. Back and Home sit just below.
- Play plays; when the TV reports playback, the same button switches to Pause.
- Touchpad (LG): swipe to move the pointer, tap to click.
- Keyboard (LG and Android TV): select a text field on the TV first, then type on your phone and tap Send. In LG's YouTube app, Send starts a new search.
- Favourite apps: open TV apps and tap Pin beside an app to put it on the remote for that TV.
- Turn off always asks for confirmation.
- TV details lets you rename or forget a TV. Forgetting removes its pairing keys and favourites from your phone.
Turning the TV on
Phones can only wake a TV that keeps listening on the network while it's in standby. It doesn't work on every model.
- LG: pair once, then enable TV On With Mobile or Turn on via Wi-Fi in the TV's settings. Waking can take a few seconds.
- Samsung: enable the TV's power-on-with-mobile option (often under Settings → General → Network → Expert Settings). The app also needs to have saved the TV's hardware address during pairing.
- Sony: enable Remote start if your TV has it.
- Android TV: Wake works when the TV stays connected in standby. If the TV drops its network connection, turn it on with its own remote and tap Reconnect.
The app can't find my TV
- Check the TV is on (not in deep standby) and connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Check your phone is on the same network, not mobile data, a guest network or a VPN.
- Tap Search again. Some routers block the discovery messages the app uses.
- Enter the TV's IP address by hand. The app works out the TV type for you.
- Restart the TV by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then try again.
Other problems
"TV identity changed"
The app remembers each TV's security certificate after pairing. If the certificate changes, the app stops instead of sending your saved pairing key. This can happen after a factory reset or some software updates, but it can also mean another device on the network is pretending to be your TV. If you're sure it's your TV, forget it in TV details and pair again.
Buttons don't do anything
Check the status under the TV name. If it says offline, turn the TV on and tap Reconnect. If your router gave the TV a new IP address, add the TV again. Setting a reserved address for the TV in your router prevents this.
Typing doesn't appear on the TV
Select a text field on the TV first. Some TV apps use their own on-screen keyboard and ignore remote text.
Volume shows "Level not reported"
Some TVs don't tell apps their volume. The buttons still work; the app won't guess a number.
Contact support
Email moh.khll@gmail.com with your TV brand and model and what happened.
It helps to include a diagnostics report: open Settings → Copy diagnostics in the app and paste it into your email. The report lists recent connection results and leaves out TV names, addresses, PINs, pairing keys and anything you typed. The app never sends it anywhere by itself. See the privacy policy.
